June 22, 2013 - Saturday
As part of our advocacy to protect human rights, Katipon is Dakila's educational platform. We discuss important social issues and concerns over wine and wisdom, cocktails and conversations, rhum and rhetorics. So for this Katipon, our topic is about LGBTI. Held at Boho Sarapsody around Aurora Blvd. area, perfect for a 'chill' and tambay lang atmosphere.

I learned a lot from this guy! I thought I understood the LGBT na but there are more terminologies under LGBT that most people didn't know the differences of each term. Ron made it easy to understand by means of showing us the matrix. He said that it will take us more than a day to explain everything since it's so complicated to understand and explain. (Nakakaloka, dinagsa namin siya ng tanong at 'please pakiulit' kasi na-slow kami. HAHAHA Of course, q and a portion after ng whole talk.)
Our second speaker! Beautiful, indeed. (Kinabog ako! :"">) Ron ended his talk by hanging us on Transexuality, where Brigite explained it to us. For more info, here's a link on what happened. =) http://www.ustream.tv/channel/dakila-katipon
I knew a lot from this discussion. I regret for not taking down notes.. since I'm too much focused on listening. (Nawala sa isip mag-multitask haha!) Anyway, here's some lessons I learned from them and some do's and don'ts.
- Never generalize the LGBT community. There are subgroups under it and it could take time to understand and differentiate each term to others. You could base it on the Sex and Gender Matrix. :)
- Not all LGBT are supporters of LGBT's advocacy on human rights. Sometimes, they are 'liabilities'.
- Questions like 'Who you go to bed with?' answers your sexual orientation. While 'Who you go to bed AS?' answers your gender identity.
- The politically correct term is, Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS). NOT Sex Transplant. Be sensitive with asking questions regarding this. It is offensive to ask directly, straight to the point as if you're interrogating their wholeness as a human being. RESPECT.
- The LGBT community is still invisible in the eyes of local government. There are still no laws protecting them. This is why they are pursuing the Anti-Discriminatory Bill as a foundation of their security.
That's a wrap! Thanks to STRAP women for sharing their thoughts and Advocacy with us. Also for inviting us at Pride March, happening at UP Diliman on June 27, around 3pm. Further announcments will be posted, of course! :)
At the end of the day, is NIGHT. chos! I just want to share my hassle-ness for this Katipon (pero worth it naman shempre!) Hassle jowa, hassle commute, hassle walkathon! But thank God everything turned out well, and a big plus dahil hindi umulan! Well okay lang nung pauwi na ako. hehe :) I am just amazeballs to myself na I could do palm readings. Di ko ineexpect na ganon. Yay! I am gifted! Mukhang pinatry sakin ng nanay ko ang Promil para maging gifted. Choz! Til next Katipon!
